Permanent Caregiver Support Service

Ko te ahurei o te tamaiti, arahia o tatou mahi

Let the uniqueness of the child guide our work

OUR KAUPAPA

For tamariki to flourish in homes where they are safe, secure and feel that they belong, permanent caregivers need responsive and effective support to best meet the needs of the tamariki in their care. The PCSS is responsible for administering post permanency support for Permanent Caregivers (as defined by the Oranga Tamariki Act 1989)

This service is now operated by Turuki Healthcare under delegated authority from the Chief Executive Oranga Tamariki Ministry for Children.

PCSS SERVICE DELIVERY

The PCSS is a national service. Assistance can range from providing advice or social work support through to financial help or other assistance.

The PCSS team are qualified and registered social workers and are available through a national call centre from:

8.30am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday apart from statutory holidays.

We will also help caregivers to develop or update a Care Plan that sets out what support is required to meet the needs of tamariki in their care.

Permanent caregivers can request assistance from us at any point in time until tamariki reach 18 years of age.

PCSS PRACTICE

Our goal for the PCSS is to ensure wellness for caregivers and for the tamariki in their care. Ultimately tamariki deserve to be in loving and caring homes, recovering and flourishing.

To support this vision PCSS will always be delivered under the cloak of our Turuki Healthcare core values; Aroha, Pono, Tika (truth and honesty in action).

To complement our values, we have three Pou Tikanga (pillars reflecting our customs). These Pou comprise a set of principles that support and guide Turuki staff in their work.

  1. Whānaungatanga – Focused on the nature and quality of relationships.
  2. Kotahitanga – Working together in unity and utilising collective skills
  3. Manaakitanga – Honouring and respecting others, ensuring that any PCSS activity enhances and/or protects the mana of caregivers and tamariki in their care
